Wonderful European Delicacies Which Might Push You Outside of your Comfort Zone
Date : 2016-04-21

Europe offers a lot to everyone - whether you're looking for sites, sounds or special delicacies. Throughout the continent, there’s a huge variety of dishes available, and a bit of variety is part of the travelling experience. Whilst they are not necessarily foods that you would opt for as your last supper -  they're definitely worth a go!

Which one of the below do you think may tickle your taste buds... or better still comes with your recommendation?

Sauerkraut

Translating directly into 'sour cabbage', this German delicacy is great at a BBQ and even better when enjoyed whilst perusing the streets of Berlin and Munich. Easy to prepare and offering up a tasty kick, this is an amazing accompaniment for almost any meal. Definitely worth a taste, and is best washed down with a German lager!

Bigos

Bigos, or hunter's stew, is a Polish delicacy that hasn't quite made it into the UK's high street just yet. Made using a mixture of meat and cabbage, this is a dish that's as delicious as the common British stew. Tasty and wholesome, this is an excellent choice that will surprise you.

Paella

Paella is Spain's answer to... well, just about anything! Wholesome, tasty and containing a combination of amazing (and ideally fresh, locally sourced) ingredients, this traditional Spanish dish is a must-have for anybody looking for sun without the travel. Often including lots of seafood, this is a choice that's ideal for summer.

Spaghetti alla Puttanesca

Everybody loves spaghetti! (well, almost everybody) And it's fair to say that it's rather common in the UK. But olives in a spaghetti dish are less common - they're incredibly moreish though, and they're what this dish offers. Plus, olives have lots of health benefits, so you don't need to feel guilty about indulging.

Gulash

A stew usually made from pork or beef, this is a Hungarian and Czech speciality which, like the Spanish paella, can hold its own against even the most filling Yorkshire pudding. With the vegetable of choice varying from person to person and place to place, this can be an excellent and diverse choice.

Frikadellen

Meatballs are good, there's no way around that. If you like meat and if you want to add something hearty to a meal, there isn't a better choice. Traditionally hailing from Denmark, the frikadeller recipe can vary considerably from location to location - but it's always good!
